Israel Calls up 16000 More soldiers to widen its Ongoing Operation in Gaza

The Israeli military announced this morning that 16000 more reservists have been called up to join its ongoing operation against Gaza.

The call up, which brings the total number of soldiers to 86000, confirms Benjamin Netanyahu’s intentions to potentially widen the offensive against Gaza. The main goal according to the Israeli Prime Minister is to destroy all tunnels used by Hamas militants to cross from Gaza into Israel. He said: “We are determined to complete this mission with or without a ceasefire. I won’t agree to any proposal that will not enable the Israeli military to complete this important task for the sake of Israel’s security.”

The call up came after some UN officials accused Israel of violating international law when the Israeli army targeted a UN school overflowing with evacuees and killing at least 20 people. It was the 6th UN building to be targeted by Israel during this conflict.

“I condemn in the strongest possible terms this serious violation of international law by Israeli forces,” said Pierre Krähenbühl, the UNRWA commissioner-general. “This is an affront to all of us, a source of universal shame. Today the world stands disgraced.”

The Palestinian death toll rose to 1340 killed and more than 7200 injured, 33% of which are children according to the UN.
