RABAT- The Israeli Minister of Transport, Miri Regev, announced on Monday, May 29, that Israel will soon express its position on the Sahara issue.

In an interview given to Israeli channel I24, amid the first official visit of an Israeli Transport Minister to Morocco, the minister stated, “Israel understands the importance of this issue to Moroccans, and the relations with Morocco are of utmost importance to Israel. I am sure that the government will take a position on this issue very soon.”

The Israeli Minister’s comments may indicate that Israel is considering recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara region, following in the footsteps of the United States and other countries.

Regarding her visit to Morocco, she added: “I feel here as if I’m at home. This is my first visit to the Kingdom, so it is very important to me professionally, but also personally, because my father was born in Larache and my grandfather was buried in Casablanca.”
