Morocco to Bring Back Its citizens from Libya Following Crisis

Morocco will be bringing its citizen back from Libya after fighting between rival armed factions spread in the Libyan capital.

Three years after the uprising, Libya’s fragile government and nascent army are unable to control heavily armed brigades of ex-rebels who refuse to disband and have allied themselves with competing political factions to become powerbrokers.

A statement from the Moroccan ministry of Foreign Affairs reads the following: “following the deterioration of the security situation in Libya, a crisis unit made up of the different concerned Ministerial Departments has been put in place in the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, in order to ensure the follow up of the situation of the Moroccan nationals in this country.

“This unit is in charge of the coordination with the Kingdom of Morocco’s Diplomatic and Consular Missions in Libya with a view of putting in place a system of voluntary repatriation as well as actions of intervention for emergency and assistance in favor of the Moroccan nationals in this country.

“The following telephone numbers are put at the disposal of the Moroccans living in Libya and the members of their families in Morocco, to enable them to be informed, on a regular basis, about the developments of the situation in this brotherly Maghreb country.
