Moroccan Minister of Communication Mustapha El Khalfi was reported to be very angry at 2M and to have sent yesterday an official letter to the said public channel, asking for clarification following the broadcasting of a jovial “Saturday Musical Night Show,” which included Moroccan Shikhats performing folkloric dances.
Akhbar Al Yaoum said that the broadcasting was perceived as a clear defiance to the Moroccan people mourning their compatriots following the tragic wave of floods that has swept the south of Morocco, with a death toll floating around 50 persons, and with as many as 2000 people left homeless and currently sheltering in public schools.
Akhbar Al Yaoum reported in its yesterday’s edition that the Moroccan Minister called in person the head of 2M, Salim Sheikh, last Saturday at around 22h, as soon as the show started, to ask for clarification,” but apparently was “ignored by the 2M head,” which drove him to send an official clarification letter yesterday.
Akhbar Al Yaoum added that El Khalfi has also contacted Faisal El Araichi, the SNRT’s head.
It is worth reminding that the said broadcast was widely criticized by Moroccans on social media, especially on Facebook, as it was considered a “blatant disrespect to their emotions following the death of their compatriots” and “the deplorable current circumstances the country, especially the south region, is going through.”
