Rabat, Morocco (TMT)-According to Morocco’s leading economy outlet Leconomiste, Casablanca will witness the building of a new tram line in the near future.

The said source said that works are currently underway, with construction teams currently set at the Lissasfa and Hay Mohammadi districts, building the necessary infrastructure to accommodate prospective trams.

The rails installation works, on the other hand, are scheduled to start on May 2016.

The new line will span over 15 kms, extending through the Anual boulevard, El Fida, la Grande ceinture, Hay Mohammadi, Ain Sebaa, and the Sidi Bernoussi discticts.

The already existing line will be also extended by 2 kms, mainly to reach the Lissasfa neighborhood.

It is worth reminding that the aforementioned initiatives are part of the Grand Casablanca development plan 2015-2020, which aims at extending Morocco’s economic-heart-city transport network to a span of 80 kms (tram lines and road infrastructure), with an estimated total cost of around 3.7 billion Dirhams.
