Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- During his visit to Doha, Qatar, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he will step down from his position of head of state if anyone can prove that Turkey is buying oil from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)

Erdogan, who was speaking at a university in the Qatari capital, was reacting to Russian President Vladimir Putin’ statement that the decision by Turkey to down a Russian jet last week was “dictated by the desire to protect the oil supply lines to Turkish territory.”

Erdogan called Valadimir Putin’s statement “a slander.”

Putin was not the only one to accuse Turkey, but the Russian Ministry of Defense also said that “it had proof that Erdogan and his family were benefiting from the illegal smuggling of oil” from trade with ISIS.
