Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The Moroccan government expressed its desire to reopen the Samir refinery in Mohammedia, stating that” it supports the reopening of this national facility while being mindful of the legal obstacles it faces,” as stressed the Government Spokesperson, Mustapha Baytas.

Baytas went on further to note that “the government has committed to doing everything in its power to ensure that the refinery contributes to the country’s production once again.”

The Samir refinery’s complex case is due to 20 years of accumulated issues and debts between investors and the Moroccan state, leading to the refinery’s shutdown.

Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, highlighted lately that the government is currently exploring solutions to resolve the issue.
