Tangier, Morocco (TMT)- Due to the increasing number of beggars in Tangier, whom many of them resort to this act not out of necessity but more of laziness and manipulating philanthropic feelings of the community, the authorities took the decision to start arresting beggars in various neighborhoods of the city, especially around mosques.
The authorities are focusing their efforts on arresting those who clearly seem fit to work, but nevertheless resort to this shameful act.
This initiative is part of the “Global Metropolis Tangier Project,” which aims to promote the city of Tangier through improving its infrastructure, creating more green spaces around the city, among others.
According to the authorities, beggars on every street corner in Tangier contribute to giving “a very bad image and reputation to the city,” something that had to be addressed urgently.
