Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The Moroccan Minister of Justice, Mustapha Ramid has been heavily criticized yesterday on social media on the sidelines of his recent statement to Morocco’s online media outlet Lakome, regarding whether he is intending to open an investigation following the emergence of Moroccan names in the Panama papers leaks.

Ramid told Lakome that he is “not aware of the subject,” further noting that “his knowledge of the laws that regulate tax evasion in Morocco is very limited,” stressing that “when I used to be a parliamentarian, my knowledge on this was limited, and in Morocco very few people are familiar with this topic [tax evasion].”

Many Moroccans shared on Facebook an old video of Ramid [featured video above] calling upon Moroccan parliamentarians to bring him corruption cases, stressing “bring me please concrete proofs of corruption [in Morocco], and we [Ministry of Justice] will take those cases with utmost consideration and seriousness.”

Leading Moroccan columnist Mayssa Salam Naji, including other notorious Moroccan figures, shared the same video on their Facebook pages stressing, among others, that the Minister has now a concrete proof of a corruption case, wondering why his statement to Lakome was so ambiguous.
