Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- In light of the head of the terrorist organization Da’esh, or the Non-Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (NISIS), calling for an attack on the offices of MINURSO [United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara], Stéphane Dujarric, the Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations said last Thursday during a press briefing that Morocco is responsible for the protection and security of the United Nations staff staffed in the sahara.

“The safety of UN personnel, whether they be civilian or unarmed military observers, because, as you know, the Mission is staffed with unarmed military observers, is within the responsibilities of the parties who have de facto authorities throughout the territory [Morocco],” Dujarric said.

“The Secretary‑General in his report underscored the risks of the growth of extremism in the region,” Dujarric stressed.

It is worth reminding that Morocco is currently the only country in North Africa to have successfully thwarted all ISIS threats.
