Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Najib Chaouki, one of the founders of the 20th February movement has refused to present himself in the PJD party’s youth electoral list on the sidelines of the on-door parliamentary elections, in the wake of the PJD party asking various notorious personalities from all walks of ideologies to present themselves as “independent candidates under the political hood of the PJD.”

According to Moroccan paper Akhbar Al Yaoum, it was the secretary general of the PJD, the head of the Moroccan government, Abdellilah Benkirane himself who asked one of the leaders of the youth section of his party if Najib is interested in presenting himself as a 5th candidate in the youth electoral list of the PJD.

Akhbar Al Yaoum said that Najib gently refused the offer, stressing that he is currently “not quite convinced in working from within the political sphere, preferring for the time being to defend democracy and push for more reforms through professional journalism.”

It is worth reminding that Najib Chaouki currently works as a journalist in the formerly-banned news outlet Lakome.
