Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Few hours following King Mohammed VI appointing yesterday the Secretary General of the PJD party, Abdellilah Benkirane as head of the Moroccan government, for a second term, the PJD released a communiqué where it lauded King Mohammed VI’s approach in instilling democracy in Morocco, including thanking the Moroccan people for trusting them.

King Mohammed VI’s appointment of Benkirane came at a time where various state-linked political analysts, like Manar Slimi, including various media outlets, were hinting that the Moroccan monarch will appoint another leader from the PJD, or even appoint a technocrat as head of government, as “the King does not get along with Benkirane.”

Article 49 of the Moroccan constitution states, “The King appoints the Head of Government from within the political party arriving ahead in the elections of the members of the Chamber of Representatives, and with a view to their results.”
