Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Moroccan citizens stranded in Sudan due to the recent violence and unrest can breathe a sigh of relief as the first flight carrying 130 of them arrived safely at the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca this morning.

The operation to transport Moroccan citizens was carried out in response to the deteriorating security situation in Sudan, which has witnessed deadly clashes between elements of the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad issued a statement on Monday stressing the King’s instructions to secure the return of said citizens from Sudan.

The Moroccan embassy in Sudan organized a convoy from the capital Khartoum to Port Sudan, which was used by more than 200 Moroccan citizens residing in Sudan or those who happened to be in the country during these difficult circumstances.
