Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The process of transforming Morocco’s national aviation company, (well-known under its French acronym ONDA) into a public limited company (PLC) is currently underway, said the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, yesterday during a planner session in the house of representatives of the Moroccan parliament.

Abdeljalil emphasized that the ONDA, one of the most important actors in the aviation transport sector, is undergoing a significant phase in its history as a public institution responsible for managing airports and controlling air navigation safety since 1991.

He added that the aviation transport sector and airports hold great significance for the national economy as a fundamental pillar of economic and tourist activities.

Abdeljalil stressed that this development reflects the country’s efforts to modernize and improve its aviation infrastructure, which can potentially contribute to the growth and development of the country’s economy.

Political parties from the opposition, especially the leftists, believe, on the other hand, that the decision was made as a result of recommendations put forth by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
