Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Families of Moroccan migrants who have gone missing while attempting to immigrate to Europe are asking the authorities to help reveal their fate and return them to the kingdom.

Members of the “Coordination of Families of Missing Moroccan Youth Candidates for Immigration” protested yesterday in Rabat, holding pictures of young men who went missing during their attempts to cross to Europe.

The coordination estimates that around 800 people, mostly Moroccans, have gone missing since 2014 while attempting to migrate, including Sudanese and Syrian refugees, and individuals from sub-Saharan African countries.

Morocco is a traditional transit route for irregular migration to Spain, whether for people coming from sub-Saharan Africa or many young Moroccans seeking a better life in “European paradise.”

The families are appealing for help in finding their loved ones and want officials to stand by their side.
