The Unified Socialist Party, part of the FGD leftist coalition, called on the Moroccan authorities to release all detainees arrested amid the protest that ensued following the Skhirat shanty houses demolition.
They emphasized in a statement the residents’ right to dignified housing, as guaranteed by international conventions and national laws.
The party also highlighted the importance of implementing the provisions of the 2005 agreement for the Imhijer shanty town and restoring the rights of those affected.
Additionally, they called for improving social conditions in Skhirat, including education, healthcare, transportation, job opportunities, and utilizing evacuated lands for regional development.
