The Royal Gendarmerie successfully apprehended on Monday two trucks loaded with 10 tons of poultry litter, which were planned to be used as fodder for sheep amid the forthcoming Eid al-Adha.

The operation was made in collaboration with the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) and local authorities, according to sources from the ONSSA. The operation took place in Ksar El Kebir, within the Marrakech-Safi region.

Authorities disposed of the waste material and instituted legal proceedings against the offenders. The violators will be handed over to the public prosecutor’s office, in adherence to the standing legal procedures, confirmed the same ONSSA source.

The authorities said that as the religious fest approaches, the public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities that compromise food safety standards.

Authorities continue to advise the public to purchase livestock from known and trusted sources to prevent any health-related risks.
