Moroccan Budget Minister Fouzi Lekjaa responded yesterday to criticism regarding the reduction in beneficiaries from the social coverage system.
He clarified that the new system, Compulsory Health Insurance ( well known under its French acronym AMO), now covers more than 9 million individuals, who were transferred from the RAMED system.
This, according to him, represents a significant increase in social coverage, contrary to some reports suggesting a decrease.
“The number being quoted, 4 million, refers to families, not individuals,” Lekjaa explained.
Lekjaa’s statements came amid criticism from various parliamentarians regarding a significant decline in the number of beneficiaries within the Moroccan social system.
