The Court of Cassation in Morocco has upheld a suspended two-year prison sentence for Abdennebi Aidoudi, a parliamentary representative of the Popular Movement Party.

Aidoud was charged with squandering public money during his term as president of the Hwafat municipal council in Sidi Qasim.

The court rejected Aydoudi’s appeal against the verdict which was issued by the Rabat Court of Appeal in February 2022.

The case began following a complaint from Hwafat municipality advisors. They accused Aydoudi of embezzling public funds, pointing to inconsistencies between actual completed municipal projects and the records, particularly related to materials like tiles, pavement stones, and electric light poles.
