A dramatic incident unfolded on the Rabat-Casablanca highway last night, as a heavily drunk truck driver sped recklessly in the wrong direction, causing widespread alarm amongst fellow motorists.
The driver, who was later found to be heavily inebriated, navigated his truck at a high speed on the busy stretch between Bouznika and Mohammedia. Several drivers narrowly avoided what could have been a severe collision.
Alerted by a university professor, the Royal Gendarmerie swiftly intervened. An undercover motorcycle squad tracked down the rogue vehicle and brought the situation under control near the Bouznika service station, averting a potential disaster.
The driver is now in custody at the Royal Gendarmerie center in Bouznika, awaiting charges from the Public Prosecution.
