A recent statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published on the sidelines of the the 5th session of the Moroccan- Russian High Joint Commission, said that King Mohammed VI will be conducting an official visit to the Russian federation really soon.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar, while co-chairing with the Russian Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Nikolai Fedorov, the aforementioned commission, which came according to Mezouar “in the perspective of the expected visit of His Majesty The King Mohammed VI, May God assist Him, to the Russian Federation,” the statement quoted Mezouar saying.
Though that the Ministry did not specify the exact date and duration of the visit, local reports hinted out that the Moroccan monarch will head to Russia next month.
It is worth reminding that Morocco is Russia’s top trade partner in Africa and the Arab World, and that Morocco’s exports to Russia mainly concern the agricultural sector.
King Mohammed VI’s visit was scheduled to take place, in the first place, during the last month of June but was postponed.
Back-then, the first “Morocco-Russia Economic Forum,” which was scheduled to take place during the June-visit, was not postponed and took place in Russia. The Forum witnessed the participation of a heavy Moroccan ministerial delegation, headed by the chairwoman of the Moroccan General Association of Entreprises (CGEM), Miriem Bensalah Chaqroun.
