Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, received on Thursday evening at the presidential palace in Lisbon the Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch.

Akhannouch, who is leading an important delegation to Portugal, will chair today with the Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa, the 14th high-level meeting under the slogan “Morocco-Portugal: reaffirmation of a model strategic partnership.”

The meeting will be an opportunity to deepen the partnership and launch several structured projects in various fields, including the automotive, renewable energy, and textile sectors.

Portugal is one of the top ten economic and trade partners for Morocco.

Morocco has become Portugal’s first partner in the Arab and African world and the second outside the European Union.

Despite the global health crisis, the two countries have seen an increase in their trade, with Moroccan exports increasing by 20% and imports by 30%.
