Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- As the dark ink of terrorism seeps through the region, and even though Morocco is the only North African country that did not witness any terrorist attacks on its land, the tourism sector in the kingdom has been suffering from the repercussions of various terrorist attacks Morocco’s neighboring countries have been, unwillingly, trailing to.

According to official figures from Morocco’s Tourism Observatory, Morocco welcomed 10.18 million visitors last year, with foreign tourist influx down by 5.3%.

The Moroccan expatriates visits was up by 3.7%, which soothed down the decrease of tourist influx to only 1%.

According to said source, German tourist numbers rocketed by 8% while British visitors increased by 5%.

On the other hand, tourist influx from France was down by 5%.

Foreign tourist spending, according to the same source, reached 58.6 billion Moroccan dirhams (USD 5.886 billion), down 1.4% from 59.3 billion dirhams (USD 5.967 billion) recorded in 2014.
