Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The Moroccan authorities said they are very concerned about the actual situation in Gabon, stressing that “the Kingdom of Morocco is strongly committed to the stability of the Republic of Gabon.”

“The Kingdom of Morocco follows closely the developments of the situation in Gabon since the announcement of the results of the presidential election, which constitutes a moment of democratic expression,” a communiqué from Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation read.

“The Moroccan and Gabonese peoples are linked by historical ties of brotherhood, cooperation and solidarity. In this context, the Kingdom of Morocco is strongly committed to the stability of the Republic of Gabon,” the statement further noted.

“Calls to violence launched by some candidates in order to condition the outcome of the appeal to the Constitutional Court does not have a place in a democratic process. Such appeals are not compatible with the democratic expression and the respect for the rule of law and show an attitude of nervousness and excitement incompatible with the exercise of democracy,” the statement added.

“The Kingdom of Morocco calls for restraint and wisdom to preserve the stability of this brotherly country and spare the Gabonese people the agonies of division. Any other outcome will be fatal for Gabon but also for the stability of the entire sub-region, only the Gabonese people must be masters of their destiny,” the statement closed.
