Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- On the sidelines of the negotiations the Party of Justice and Development is conducting to gather a comfortable government coalition, Hamid Chabat, the secretary general of Al Istiqlal (IP) has asked yesterday the PJD to negotiate with the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), 20 seats, to join the prospective government coalition.

The following days will reveal whether the PJD will opt for a comfortable majority coalition, which will include 5 parties, namely PJD, Al Istiqlal, USFP, PPS, and MP, or they will opt for a 4-parties lead coalition (PJD, PPS, Al Istiqlal, MP) or (PJD, PPS, Al Istiqlal, USFP)

The scenario of the PJD replacing the MP with the USFP is quite relevant, especially that the MP is perceived as an administrative party by mainstream Moroccans. Various officials of this party betrayed the government coalition last year when voting for the PAM party on the sidelines of the 2015 local and regional elections, a move which PJD members interpreted as a stab in their back.
