Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Following an invitation received from the Moroccan monarch King Mohammed VI, as well as the Catholic Bishops of Morocco, Pope Francis will be setting foot in the kingdom in March 2019, a visit that will take him to Morocco’s capital Rabat as well as the country’s economic hub Casablanca.

According to the Vatican’s press office, the visit will take place from the 30th to the 31st of March 2019.

Pope Francis, 81, will only be the second pope to visit Morocco.

In 1985, and following an invitation extended by the late King Hassan II, John Paul II entered history as the first pope to set foot in the North African kingdom.
