Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- Morocco’s national railway company, The “Office National des Chemins de Fer” (ONCF) has announced the launch of a call for tenders for geological, hydrogeological, and geotechnical reconnaissance work for the preliminary study of the Marrakech-Agadir high-speed railway project. This ambitious project aims to connect the two Moroccan cities with a fast and efficient railway system, part of a grand scheme to connect Tangier to Agadir afterward.

The reconnaissance work, which is expected to last approximately 16 months, will provide valuable information on the geological, hydrogeological, and geotechnical nature of the project site, for which the ONCF has allocated a budget of 144 million MAD.

The reconnaissance work will involve mainly conducting geological surveys and hydrogeological investigations. The study will also cover a detailed assessment of the infrastructure’s general layout, including the various structures and tunnels required for the project.

The ONCF’s efforts to bring the Marrakech-Agadir high-speed railway project to fruition continue with this latest announcement.

Buoyed by the success of the Tangier-Kenitra high-speed project, the Moroccan public eagerly anticipated the connection of other cities through the country’s expanding network of high-speed railways.

Although many were initially skeptical due to the high cost, the success of the Tangier-Kenitra high-speed project allayed the critics and heightened public anticipation for the expansion of the high-speed railway network.
