Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes (well-known under its French acronym ADII) in Morocco has issued a circular clarifying the exemption of value-added tax (VAT) on imported agricultural products and materials.

According to a report by the Moroccan paper Aujourd’hui Le Maroc, the ADII has provided two formalities for importers to benefit from VAT exemption: they need to submit an online request to the General Directorate of Taxes (DGI in Frency) and present a supplier invoice indicating the products or materials and their cost excluding tax.

It is worth reminding that the new mechanism for granting VAT exemption certificates is aimed at curbing rampant inflation in the country.

The VAT exemption will be granted for phytosanitary products, animal and plant genetic material, and other equipment exclusively used for agricultural purposes.

For other imported products and materials, the exemption is subject to additional formalities. The report notes that the exemption will apply to direct importers and traders after submitting a request to the DGI and providing relevant documents.
