Rabat, Morocco (TMT)-A report from the international police organization Interpol revealed that in 2022, Morocco suffered the highest number of bank Trojan attacks, with 18,827 incidents. Bank Trojan is a type of malicious software used by internet criminals to gain access to sensitive information and bank account details, often through phishing emails or malicious websites.
The report also highlighted that South Africa had the second-highest number of bank Trojan attacks, followed by Nigeria. The criminals in Morocco and other places rely heavily on social engineering tactics, such as impersonation and identity theft, to gain access to sensitive data.
The report also noted that Morocco had the highest number of electronic extortion schemes in Africa, with 69% of all such schemes discovered in the country. These schemes can target vital infrastructure, such as hospitals, energy facilities, and government agencies, and may involve ransomware attacks.
Overall, the report highlights the increasing threat of cybercrime in Africa and the need for better cybersecurity measures to protect individuals and organizations from these types of attacks.
