Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The Popular Movement party is mired in another corruption scandal.

A judge in Béni Mellal court has ordered the prosecution of a member of the Popular Movement party named “A.M” on charges of forgery of a document related to a professional association for cattle breeders.

He is also accused of falsifying a document to freeze the membership of some women cooperatives affiliated with the National Association of Cattle Breeders.

The trial of the parliamentarian is expected to begin on May 18th, and his passport has been confiscated, preventing him from traveling outside the country.

He will also be subject to judicial monitoring on a weekly basis.

The man is believed to have struck a deal with a private cattle breeder, an acquaintance, to allow him to dominate the regional market and kill competition from the cooperatives.

Women cooperatives in Morocco are associations of women who come together to produce traditional handicrafts, such as textiles, dairy products, cattle, pottery, and argan oil.

These cooperatives provide women with a source of income and allow them to participate in the economic development of their communities. Women’s cooperatives in Morocco are often supported by government and non-governmental organizations, which provide training, marketing assistance, and other resources to help them succeed.
