Moroccan Director Meriem Touzani Makes History on Cannes Film Festival Jury

Casablanca, Morocco (TMT)- Moroccan filmmaker Meriem Touzani has made history by becoming the first-ever Moroccan director to join the jury of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The festival is set to take place in the French city of Cannes from July 6 to July 17, 2022, and will be chaired by Ruben Östlund, a two-time Palme d’Or winner.

The jury will be responsible for selecting the winner of the coveted Palme d’Or from 21 movies in the competition, including works by prominent filmmakers such as Wes Anderson and Catherine Corsini. Alongside Touzani, the panel includes esteemed actors and filmmakers such as Brie Larson, Denis Menochet, and Julia Ducournau.

Her selection as a jury member is a testament to her talent and success in the film industry and marks a historic moment for Moroccan cinema.
