CASABLANCA- Morocco’s FGD “Democratic Federation of the Left”, a political coalition consisting of three political parties, has called for widespread participation in a national protest scheduled for June 4, 2023, in Casablanca.

The demonstration, also supported by the Democratic Labor Confederation, is, according to them, a response to “several social and economic issues,” which include “a rise in corruption, patronage, and monopolies, along with an unprecedented surge in living costs leading to a collapse in citizens’ purchasing power.”

The Federation also criticized the government for neglecting its social commitments to the working class, such as wage increases, income tax reduction, and support for groups affected by recurring crises.

The Federation expressed concern over the “infringement of rights and freedoms and the repression of peaceful protests.”

The June 4 demonstration, according to a statement from the FGD, aims to “voice citizens’ dissatisfaction, demand better living conditions, reduce poverty and unemployment, and protest against violations of rights and freedoms in Morocco.”
