Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- The National Agency of Water and Forests in Morocco warned of an increased risk of forest fires in the summer of 2023 due to the drought and long heat waves.

They have taken preemptive measures and allocated a budget of 200 million Moroccan dirhams for equipment, patrols, and maintenance of water points and firebreaks.

They also presented a new plan for integrated forest fire management for the period 2023-2033.

The agency urged forest users and visitors to be cautious and reduce the use of fire.

Exceptional weather conditions have caused devastating fires in several countries in our region, including Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and Algeria.
