Moroccan Dams Experience Lower Capacity Due to Low Rainfall

Rabat, Morocco (TMT)- According to the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, and Water, the total capacity of the main dams in Morocco has decreased this year due to low rainfall.

The latest data shows that the total capacity of the dams has reached over 5.22 billion cubic meters, with a filling rate of 32.4%, a decrease from the same period last year, which had a total capacity of around 5.53 billion cubic meters, with a filling rate of 34.3%.

The lower capacity this year is due to the current season’s low rainfall. This has led to a decrease in water levels in the dams, with the Al Wahda Dam having the most important capacity at 1.98 billion cubic meters, with a filling rate of 56.5%, followed by the Wadi Makhazen Dam, which has a capacity of approximately 536.8 million cubic meters and a filling rate exceeding 79.8%.

The Idriss Al Aoual Dam occupies the third place with a capacity of 272.7 million cubic meters and a filling rate of 24.1%, compared to 46.5% during the same period last year.
