Court of Cassation Upholds 3 Years Jail Ruling Against Mohammed Ziane

The Court of Cassation has upheld the ruling against a Former Moroccan Minister of Human Rights Mohamed Ziane, 79 years old, sentencing him to three years in prison.

The initial verdict was issued by the court of first instance in Rabat, which also imposed a fine and compensation. Zian is facing various charges, including insulting judiciary officials, spreading false information, incitement to violate health emergency measures and sexual harassment.

Ziane denies the charges and believes that his prosecution is politically motivated due to his activism in politics and human rights.

On November 21, 2022, security forces arrested Mohamed Ziane and took him to prison.

Approximately one hour earlier, the Court of Appeals in Rabat confirmed his conviction of a three-year prison sentence in his absence.
