On Monday, Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment and Water, stressed the need to rethink the call for tenders process with consultancy firms specializing in infrastructure projects. He asserted these firms bear shared responsibility for the substandard state of the roads.

During an oral questioning session in the House of Representatives focused on road maintenance, Baraka pointed out a common misconception. He noted that while many solely attribute the blame for road deterioration to the companies that build the roads, the responsibility often lies with the consultancy firms that overlook errors in preliminary studies.

In light of this, Baraka announced the Ministry’s initiative to devise a rating system for these consultancy firms. This system would ensure that contracts are awarded to firms that demonstrate exceptional seriousness and efficacy in their work.
