The local authorities announced the completion of the installation of the external steel structure of the Ibn Battuta Stadium in Tangier.

In its prior state, the stadium had borne the brunt of Tangier’s heavy winds, located in a region known for its gusty winds. A striking example of this was during a past game against Argentina, where the wind was so disruptive that it made the match nearly unplayable. The recent upgrades to the stadium, while not exclusively designed to combat the wind issue, are expected to completely mitigate this problem as part of the overall enhancement.

The move is also part of Morocco’s readiness for hosting premier international football tournaments. The fruits of these enhancements will soon be visible when the stadium, along with the Moulay Abdellah Stadium, hosts the U23 African Nations Cup starting June 24.

These improvements are also part of a grand plan for Morocco to prepare its stadium infrastructure for the 2025 African Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal and Spain.
