The Kingdom has started the construction of a barrier near the Spanish enclave of Melilla, alongside the several meters high Spanish one.
This initiative, as reported by local NGOs and relayed by AFP, is within the scope of the fight against illegal immigration.
“The work for the construction of a barrier has begun about twenty days ago”, said Chakib Khyari, president of the Rif Association for Human Rights to AFP.
According to official figures from Spain, the number of illegal immigrants who managed to enter the enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla has increased by nearly 50 % in 2013.
