Casablanca’s Buildings Collapse: 4 Suspects Arrested

On the sidelines of the investigation currently taking place, following the collapse of 3 buildings in the Borgoune neighborhood of Casablanca, which resulted in the death of 23 persons, the Moroccan authorities have arrested 4 suspects.

While the body of the owner of the 5 stories-building that triggered the collapse was found lifeless under the rubble 4 days after the buildings collapsed, his 2 sons were arrested by the authorities.

According to the AFP, the contractor in charge of the restoration work that were taking place in the eve of the buildings’ collapse was also arrested, as was the case for the building’s architect.

According to a recent communiqué from the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), “the buildings collapsed because they were initially built in the 60′s to accommodate only 2 flours. However, throughout the years, the building’s owner added illegally additional floors.”

The investigation is still ongoing.
