Marrakesh, Morocco (TMT)- The Moroccan authorities busted yesterday a criminal network that sold to a Marrakesh-based private hospital a huge amount of low-quality counterfeit face masks.

The private hospital initially concluded a deal worth US$ 6.6 million with the son of a former Moroccan Minister of Human Rights to receive FFP2 face masks.

But they were appalled to discover a few days later they were subject to a scam as the delivered products were counterfeit, low-quality products that did not even meet basic face-mask protection requirements.

After lodging a complaint, the authorities investigated the case and were able to foil various attempts to scam other customers across the kingdom.

The network operated in Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakesh, Temara, and Kenitra.

The Moroccan authorities did not disclose the name of the Former Human Rights Minister.
