Khalid Alami Houir, Deputy Secretary-General of the Democratic Confederation of Labour in Morocco, shed light on their nationwide call to join national protests scheduled for June 4, 2023.

He noted that this was in response to the government’s handling of social dialogue and its stance vis-a-vis the pension system reform project.

Houir asserts that these matters impact all citizens, transcending the boundaries of the working class or trade union movement.

Houir stressed the government’s failure to implement an agreement from April 30, 2022, which promised wage increases, labor rights improvements, and effective social dialogue management. He cites this failure as indicative of the government’s inability to effectively manage social dialogue.

A particular point of contention is the pension reform, which Houir suggests could impose an undue economic burden on workers, an outcome that the union staunchly opposes.

This protest, according to Houir, not only symbolizes the union’s grievances but also acts as a catalyst for change, emphasizing the need for more equitable and inclusive social dialogue.

It is worth reminding that various organizations will join the protest, including the Leftist Coalition FGD.
